Ch 12 Journal

     I thought the ending of the book was ok but I wish some of the savages would've gotten killed by the fire.Ralph cries at the end of the novel once the danger is over because he is getting rescued but also he is sad about losing Simon and Piggy. I hate Jack the most because he was mean to Piggy for no reason and acted like he was exempt from consequences of things that happened on the island.If someone had enough time to sit down and enjoy it then i would recommend.I think it is a good read because it is not to long and it is actually entertaining unlike most books.

Ch 11 ?'s

1) Ralph decides to go confront the savages about stealing the fire and getting Piggy's specs back
2)The twins, for the first time notice Ralph's anger towards Jack. ie. the way he is making him feel
3) The plan is bound to fail, Ralph's group still has morals and the savages want to kill sows
4)Roger pushes the rock off the cliff to try and scare Ralph and tell him it was a warning.
5)The destruction of the conch is symbolically significant because it kinda describes how the boys have turned into not being civilized. At first the conch was beautiful and pristine but now its just another shell.
6)The boys wanted a chief so that someone was around to reassure them that they were safe. The chief would be there so they could come to him for comfort or ask about current things on the agenda to do.
7)Why are you not hunting any pigs? Would you beat up Jack and force him to tell everyone that you all need to be in one group again?
8)    The island is still the same as when the book started out. Yet on opposite sides there is two groups of boys. All the boys have gone down hill. They all look really dirty and homely.Most boys are apart of the savage group.
     Only four boys remain with Ralph's group, the main one. The tribe Jack has created have turned into little demented savages that show no remorse. Now Piggy AND Simon are dead because of the actions started by the savages. Being stuck on the island all of the boys have changed. It is safe to say that there is no help for any of the boys to become themselves ever again. 
     

Ch 10 LOTF Response

1)In the beginning of the chapter , Ralph was talking to Piggy saying that Simon's death was a murder, while Piggy believes it was an accident "'That was murder.' 'You stop it!' said piggy shrilly. 'What good're you doing talking like that?'.......'It was an accident.'" (Golding 156-157).When Ralph and Piggy saw the twins they said hi and Samneric quickly said that they got lost in the forest last night. "'We just been in the forest-' '-to get wood for the fire-' '-we got lost last night'" (Golding 158).

2)Ralph and Jack have very different opinions on Simon's death. Ralph claims it is a murder "'That was murder.'" (Golding 156). On the other hand, Jack does not believe that they really killed him "'But didn't we, didn't we--?' He squirmed and looked down. 'No!' In the silence that followed, each savage flinched away from his individual memory. 'No! How could we-kill-it?'" (Golding 160)


3)I believe that Jack is more like a dictator, for ordering Wilfred to be beaten. He is also bossy."'The rest of you can go to sleep as soon as the sun sets" (Golding 161). Jack and two others had gone and ambushed  Ralph, Piggy, and Samneric, in the hut "... Piggy's corner became a complication of snarls and crashes and flying limbs'" (Golding 167)

* Jack is now the official chief, he is the one in possession of the fire starter, Piggy's glasses.

In the news article titled "Suspected car thieves arrested after brief chase in Santa Maria", the writer focuses on how Santa Maria police three men who they said led them on a brief chase in a stolen vehicle. First, the writer explain how a patrol officer attempted a traffic stop be cause he spotted the car which was reported stolen.Next, the writer informs the reader that the vehicle did not stop and a brief chase ensued.Also, the writer reports that the suspects ditched the car and the chase continued on foot.In addition, the writer says officers located the driver after he broke into a residence and attempted to hide in a closet. Finally, the writer concludes by letting the reader know that the driver of the car was booked for possession of stolen property and residential burglary.

Knowledge Definement

I define knowledge as something that is needed to help people excel in life. To gain knowledge outside of school I sometimes watch many hours of Fox news. I also go to my parents, grandpa or my brother because they are all pretty knowledgeable especially my grandpa. The continuous acquisition of knowledge is important so there will be less ignorance in this world. Ignorance is big problem in the world because people are blinded by stupidity because they choose not to understand what is really going on in the world.

Op-ed piece

 As a fan of football I despise many of the teams in the NFL. There is one team though that I absolutely hate, this team is the Seattle Seahawks. The fans of Seattle are bandwagoners. The Seahawks show no class. Last but not least, Pete Carroll has violated rules in college and professional football.
 It's very obvious that many people who live in Seattle call themselves "fans", but they aren't. These people are bandwagoners and fake fans. An example of this was when the Seahawks went to the playoffs in 2012 a bunch of people came out saying they loved the Seahawks. Most of the fans today don't even know who the quarterback was before Russell Wilson. The fans are crude and don't really even know the history of the team they root for which is ridiculous.
 Another reason I hate the Seahawks is because the team doesn't show class either. One example is Marshawn Lynch refuses to talk with the media. After winning the 2013 NFC championship Richard Sherman made himself look like an ass the way he talked about Michael Crabtree which was unnecessary. Also, I've been noticing that when Sherman deflects a pass but doesn't get the ball he has a tantrum on the field. These are just a few things that show the classlessness of this team.
 One last reason why I hate the Seahawks is because Pete Carroll violates rules. I call Pete Carroll "Cheat" Carroll because I feel he does things to have the games rigged but that's just a conspiracy theory. I found out that one ruse he violated was back when he was a coach at USC. Apparently he gave an improper gift to Reggie Bush; a house for family members in the San Diego area to live in. He and the team also violated a rule recently and were fined $300,000 for allowing to much contact between players during a June 16 OTA practice. Another thing about the Seahawks is they've long led the NFL in PED suspension, players whom have tested positive for these in there system are: John Moffitt, Brandon Browner, Winston Guy, Allen Barbre, Bruce Irvin, and Richard Sherman.
 So in my humble opinion the Seahawks  are a terrible and that's why I hate them. The Seahawks and their whole fanbase are despicable. Almost every "fan" is a bandwagoner. The team shows little to no class. Lastly, Pete the "Cheat" Carroll is a rule violated in two football leagues.

Joy Luck Club Essay Response: Prompt #3

Jing-mei has succeeded in honoring her mother’s legacy. She also fulfills her mother’s legacy in the process of honoring it. Jing took Suyuan’s place in the “joy luck club” smeeting in her seat. By finding her long-lost twin sisters. As well as telling her sister’s about their mom’s life
Jing-mei mom had died and her seat was empty in the club of her mother’s friends. At first, she didn’t want to but her dad had told her too and she does so. She does not believe she can because a friend once told her she was like her mom. When Jing told her this she though it was an insult and states “You don’t even know little percent of me! How can you be me?” (27). Her “aunties” don’t care if Jing is like her mom or not, but it is still like her mom is there.
The whole reason that Jing took her mother’s place at the table, is her aunt’s told her that she needs to find her sisters in China. Her mom found her sisters through letters but Jing must find them in person to fulfill her mom’s “long-cherished wish”. In Chinese that is the meaning of the Suyuan’s name. Jing goes to China with her father but also takes a connection flight to the city her sisters live in. When she gets off the plane , her sister’s she her and all hug each other.
The last part in fulfilling her mother’s legacy is for Jing to tell her sisters abut their mother’s life. The book does not say if Jing did this. I’m more than sure she has done just that. She has fulfilled her mother’s legacy. They all know that their mother had a long and hard journey to try and restore her family, and Jing has accomplished that.
In conclusion Jing had fulfilled and has honored her mother’s legacy. She took her empty seat at the joy luck club meeting. Jing-mei went to China and reunited with her long-lost sisters. Lastly, she told Suyuan’s legacy to her sisters. Jing-mei has finally accomplished her mom’s name sake, long- cherished wish.

Literature Analysis #2

My response to The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

    The Great Gatsby is a story about a secretive millionaire,Jay Gatsby, told through his neighbor Nick Carraway. This story starts when nick is invited to one of Gatsby's extravagant parties and meets Jay himself and learned they were in the same battalion during the war. The rising action happens when Gatsby asks Nick to invite his cousin, Daisy, over to his house but to come without her husband. Later we find out that Gatsby and Daisy used to be a thing before the war, and Gatsby wanted to pick things up where they left off. We also learn Daisy's husband has a mistress. The climax is when Nick,Daisy,Gatsby,Daisy's Husband, and Nick's girlfriend go to town on a really hot day and go to a hotel suite in attempts to cool down. Gatsby goes after Tom,Daisy's husband, saying she never loved him that she always loved Gatsby, and Tom tries to expose Gatsby saying his life is a lie and he just wants to impress people.After the hotel argument, Daisy and Gatsby go to her house, but Daisy accidentally runs over Tom's mistress. The resolution is that Daisy and Tom move to the East away from Long Island and Gatsby is killed by the mistress' husband.

     The main theme of the novel is money doesn't buy happiness. Gatsby throws many extravagant   parties, but rarely attends them. Even being extremely rich doesn't make him happy. All Gatsby wants is a women to love and to love him back.This is why he wanted Daisy.

     The protagonist of the story is Jay Gatsby.Gatsby is a dynamic character, he stays calm,cool,and collective. Once he sees Daisy after five years he is like a nervous wreck.The other major character of the novel is Nick Carraway. He is important because he is the one telling the story.

     One significant symbol is the green light on the end of Daisy's dock. This symbol represents Gatsby journey to get Daisy, She was so far away but now she is with him.It also represents Gatsby's hopes and dreams for the future. About the characters, it reveals Gatsby has a burning passion for Daisy he wants he, for the longest time she was just out of reach but now he can see her clearly, just like the light.

     I chose this book, because I knew my brother had read it and he thought it was good. I also chose The Great Gatsby because I know there is a newer movie adaption and I like reading a book before the movie. The book also came to my attention because I asked my brother to help me find a book. I kept wanting to read the book because Gatsby was introduced and then I knew things were going to unravel and get good.

     Since one possible theme is money vs. happiness that can apply to famous people's lives. You think money makes you happy, it doesn't. The rich buy things they do't need, not happy. What do they do? Use drugs, still not happy.Once they get better, they are never happy, fame and fortune come with a price. Money changes people, mostly for the worse.

     One idea from the book I except to remember for a long time is the ideal of reserving judgment. Sometimes judging something to quick can cause trouble.Judging can also cause someone to have a bad rep, when reality is they're a nice person. A passage that helps is this, "In consequence I'm inclined to reserve all judgments, a habit that has opened up many curious natures to me and also made me the victim of not a few veteran bores. The abnormal mind is quick to detect and attach itself to this quality when it appears in a normal person, and so it came about that in college I was unjustly accused of being a politician, because i was privy to the secret griefs of wild, unknown men" (19)

            Both my brothers died. My parents went crazy and I only have my sister. My uncle has only let one of my brothers be rightful buried and my favorite to rot and be left “to the dogs”. I plan to do many things. First I will bury my favorite brother, get my sister to follow, and run away to start a new life.

            I would bury my favorite brother because my other one started the fight and it is not fair he was honored and my other brother is left to rot. I don’t care what my uncle says I will stand up for what I believe is right and I won’t back down. My favorite brother did not shame the family by fighting but my other did because he chose to start a fight. At night, I will sneak away grab a shovel, get wheelbarrow, put my brother in it, and find a rightful place to bury him. I would not care what people think about me like it or not people most people who and are innocent should be buried with honor.

            My sister would need to help me and she should be on my side. I would tell her she has nothing to fear because she should not be fearful of uncle because he doesn’t control our lives. We have to band together because we are all we have left in the matter of immediate family and that is way more important than extended family. My sister should follow because I’m pretty sure she feels bad for the way our other brother was dealt with if she does not follow I will be done with her and never want to be associated with her ever again. She will follow me though because she will know I’m correct and it is the right thing to do and will not stand by and let me do this alone because we are sisters.

            The last thing I would do is run away from town and start a new life. Its not that I’m scared of what will happen to me it is the fact that my other brother deservers a burial and I don’t need to die because of what I believe. I just want a new life because I don’t want to live by my uncle’s rules because it will be unjust and I will have my sister go with me so she won’t have to be punished because she does not deserve it .Leaving will be better because I can be free and not worry about being wrongfully punished my brother’s soul need to be at peace without a proper burial he soul is stuck to roam the earth for eternity. Starting a new life will be the best decision I can make because no one will know my past and where I come from.

            In final I would bury my favorite brother, have my sister assist me, and run away to start a new life. I want my brother’s soul to be at rest and not roaming the earth forever. My sister would need to follow me so we can do what is right and he assistance will be appreciated. A new life is ideal so I will not be punished for what I believe and what god probably knows what is right. What is right is right people should not be punished to bury an innocent person and that person deserves to be honored with a burial

1e) We were in a live web session thing with the author of Eating Animals, Jonathan Safran Foer, he was answering question about his book and other things related to his book. Basically he wasn't trying to turn people vegetarian and or vegan but he was talking about the way animals were treated.

1f) A stand out moment to me is when Foer explained why he doesn't eat meat. Foer doesn't believe in eating meat because of the way they are treated in the factory farms. He also said he felt uncomfortable with eating something that had to be killed. Believes killing animals doesn't need to happened. I chose this because it was kinda interesting about factory farms.

 Fii) Another moment when I was engaged, is he was asked is it easy or hard to go along time with out eating meat and how do you do it.Mr. Foer says begin vegetarian is almost like a sex change, once you go back you can never go back. If you don't think about it its easier to be vegetarian. The sex change is the part where i started to listen more.

 Fiii) A question that our class asked Jonathan Foer peaked my interest it was about the price of food I believe. He said that meat is more affordable when it is not organic and I know because that's true. He also explains that people don't take the time to actually make food or even sit together at the table anymore so they don't care what they eat. I could see what he means because it was true.

2)This presentation could relate to my life, because it can give me a little insight on people who choose to lead a vegetarian lifestyle.I know that this webinar was supposed to be persuasive but this did not change my mind about my eating habits. This session was not as informative as i thought it would be.

Literature Analysis #1-Billy Budd

1)The story of Billy Budd. A sailor who is falsely accused of attempting to create a mutiny aboard an English warship.The story is mostly in the form of exposition.The rising action begins when Billy spills his soup in front of Claggart, and his meeting with the after-guardsmens, leading Billy and Claggart to open conflict. The climax is when Billy accidentally kills Claggart after being falsely accused of mutiny.the falling action is when Captain Vere wants a trail for Billy,and tries to pressure the jury to vote Billy guilty and condemn him.
2)The theme of the novel is the people who are innocent are also vulnerable. Billy is not guilty of mutiny because he did not mean to kill Claggart.
3)I chose this book because my grandpa had read it when he was younger and he told me what it was about it that appealed to me. The book came to attention to me through my grandpa and i heard the word mutiny and thought the book was about like gory war. The book seemed like it was going to explain how the mutiny happened.
4) I didn't find the book realistic to me because it is pretty old.I made a connection with billy, I am usually an innocent person to I try not to be trouble.

Characterization:
1)Billy Budd- narrator says he is the handsome sailor ,Claggart- it says he is the master-at-arms,Billy- Claggart says billy is sweet and pleasant implying he causes no harm,Claggart- it is implied Claggart is rude because he makes a snide remark seeing Billy's spilled soup.
2)The author's diction does change, when he quotes the sailor's he uses slang and when he isn't he is using educated language.
3)The protagonist of the story,Billy Budd, is static because he stays the way he is throughout the story.
4)After reading this book I did not come away feeling like I'd met a person or character.

Enduring Memory 
The one idea from this book I expect to remember for a long tome is good vs. evil. Good vs. evil is a recurring theme in books and life. We can never escape it. Just like in religion there is good gods and then there is a devil. Take the yin-yang symbol the good is in the bad and the bad is in the good. An excerpt from the novel that show this:"'Handsomely done, my lad! And Handsome is as handsome did it,too!' And with that passed on. Not noted by Billy as not coming within his view was the involuntary smile, or rather grimace, that accompanied Claggart's equivocal word."

Main Plot:
The main plot of this myth was to have psyche fall in love with some grubby redneck by cupid using an arrow, so that Aphrodite will remain the most beautiful women.

Main Conflict:
Cupid falls in love with psyche because he accidentally shot himself with one of his arrows.

Attempt to Explain:
This story attempts to explain the human flaw of jealousy and being vain.
Aphrodite is jealous of psyche because everyone on earth is saying she is prettier than Aphrodite.
Aphrodite is vain because she is self-centered for wanting to to remain the prettiest woman ever.

Given what I know and learned about mythology, and how it reflects the culture/values of its time, I nominate Wall Street.This will be remembered as an emblem of this culture in two thousand years for two reason; money and greediness. People think money is the key to many things but it isn't. Money doesn't buy happiness.Just because you are rich does not mean you are any better than any one else in the world.If you have money you shouldn't put anyone down either.The greediness relates to people who only care about themselves.A little while ago, my mom took my grandpa to Social Services in San Luis. There was an elderly lady my mom said she lived in her car. She went into the building and asked a lady for tape because her shoe was ripped at the top and wouldn't close. The lady behind the window said 3 times "What do you want me to do? I'm over here and you're over there." This old lady's feet were to swollen for her shoes. Eventually, she got her tape and my grandpa and another man helped her.Human kindness can make someone's day.
